Handsome Woman

You walk as though you know how to treat a man
When he picks you up in his Cadillac
You’d asked “you wanna dance?”
I hope I don’t misunderstand what you meant
The ballroom floor is a movie scene
Lean in close, skip the subtleties
Wine your breath makes my shallow heart miss a beat
I misplace my shoes; it’s my favorite pair
As I pick you up, toss you through the air
We glide across the room ‘cause we got better things to get into
All my attention focuses
There’s no time for fleeting promises
If you recall my name, won’t you let it out
We’ve been strangers for a few good hours now
Spread so smooth, you’re my Coppertone
Read my like I’m Rosetta Stone
No need to call you back
You’ll be the boomerang that knows where I’m at

Just A Ride

Trying to change the way I'm feeling
but I've got a problem with forgiveness.
They say that time will only bring healing
but I've got a problem with patience.
Would you stay the night?
It might take that long for me to get this right.
It's all just part of the ride
that we all call life.
Trying to change the way I've been thinking
but I've got a problem with anger.
They say that time will only bring healing
but I've got a problem with trusting those motherfuckers.
Would you stay the night?
It might take that long for me to get this right.
It's all just part of the ride
that we all call life.

White Coat
02:15

I spent eight years sitting in a lecture hall
learning how to fix the things that break inside of other people
let myself go to shit
Now every day I wear a white coat
it grows longer every year
and it covers me completely
hide the shame the doubt and fear
You will have to shield your eyes
when I am enveloped in white
I woke up from a suffocation dream
and sat straight up in my bed
I took deep breaths from my mouth
and I wondered if I'd ever feel comfortable again
Is this just growing old
falling apart
The room's filling with water
and the doors have all been locked
We work all day
We go home
We eat something. We watch TV.
We mumble on about working, about nothing, about eating. about nothing.
And sometimes we still talk
about making something new
and a spark flickers in your eye
then it fades in a moment or two
when we're all so tired and there are just so many channels these days.
Fuck it! Come on! Let's get swept away!
We can be anything right now
and we can make anything we want
we could still make this work
the past is fucking dead
and tomorrow's much too late
and this body that I'm stuck in can't define me
let this remind me
here and now
forget who we were
let's get swept away

It Found Me

I can make you small
I can ignore all the beauty that's within you
I can forget that there's a story that is all your own
look past all you've overcome and the life you've carved out
the dreams that you've been brave enough to keep
and I can make you small
So call me out
because there's something broken inside of me
that I can shield my eyes
that I can't see the unwavering band of light
and make you an object
make you something I could get my head and hands around
And I feel small
that I could've let myself do something
so destructive, so routinely
sick with fear I built a wall
I get so nervous around people
and one on one I turn to stone
what if you really got to know me?
I look away then at my feet
So call me out
because there's something broken inside of me
That I can shield my eyes
that I can't see the unwavering band of light
and make you an object
make you something I could get my head and hands around
So I will tattoo on the back of my eyelids
You are a mystery.
